Everything is Broken

Broken lines, broken strings,
Broken threads, broken springs,

Broken idols, broken heads,
People sleeping in broken beds.
Ain't no use jiving
Ain't no use joking
Everything is broken.
Broken bottles, broken plates,
Broken switches, broken gates,
Broken dishes, broken parts,
Streets are filled with broken hearts.
Broken words never meant to be spoken,
Everything is broken.
Seem like every time you stop and turn around
Something else just hit the ground

Broken cutters, broken saws,
Broken buckles, broken laws,
Broken bodies, broken bones,
Broken voices on broken phones.
Take a deep breath, feel like you're chokin',
Everything is broken.

Every time you leave and go off someplace
Things fall to pieces in my face

Broken hands on broken ploughs,
Broken treaties, broken vows,
Broken pipes, broken tools,
People bending broken rules.
Hound dog howling, bull frog croaking,
Everything is broken. (Everything is Broken, Bob Dylan, Copyright © 1989 Special Rider Music)
Solomon once said, “I discovered that God created people to be upright, but they have each turned to follow their own downward path.” (Ecclesiastes 7:29)

Solomon’s statement is a concise description of the biblical doctrine of human depravity. Human depravity is the corruption of the entire man, infecting every part of his nature, twisting every faculty of body and soul, and producing an inability to turn to God.

It produced a change in human nature.
“Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” (Genesis 6:5)
It produced guilt and shame.
“Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loin coverings.” (Genesis 3:7)
It produced social distortions and conflict.
“And while they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.” (Genesis 4:8)
It produced a disruption of the natural order.
Against its will, everything on earth was subjected to God's curse. All creation anticipates the day when it will join God's children in glorious freedom from death and decay.” (Romans 8:20, 21)
It produced everything that is wrong in this world.

Because of sin, everything is broken
