“No word in my vocabulary expressed deeper hatred than the word interference. And the Bible placed at the center what seemed to me a Transcendental Interferer.” (C.S. Lewis, Surprised By Joy p. 172)
What a great description of Jesus: The Transcendental Interferer.
In His role as Transcendental Interferer, Jesus messes with our plans. He interfers with our carefully laid schemes. He delights in ruining what we thought was a sweet deal. Here are a few examples.
Moses had it good in Egypt. He was sitting pretty. Until the Transcendental Interferer got him thinking about his destiny.
Joseph had a technicolor dream coat and a good arrangement at home. Until the Transcendental Interferer started giving him dreams.
Paul was advancing in Judaism far beyond his contemporaries. Until the Transcendental Interferer knocked him off his horse.
What did they get out of the deal?
Moses spent forty years in the desert. Joseph spent thirteen years in prison. Paul spent thirty years in constant conflict with Roman officials, religious leaders, and false brothers.
All because they got mixed up with the Transcendental Interferer.
But after the Transcendental Interferer was done with them, it was worth all the pain. Moses knew God face to face and performed more awesome deeds than anyone in history. Joseph became second in command over all Egypt and saw every dream God gave him come to pass. Paul received the crown of righteousness and became the most influential Christian in history.
All because they got mixed up with the Transcendental Interferer.
